Rental scams
This apartment is way cheaper than everything else. Is it a scam?

Short answer
It might be. A price well below similar units nearby is one of the most reliable scam signals, because scammers price listings to attract lots of replies and rush people into paying. A real bargain usually has a visible reason, such as a basement unit, a short lease, a far-out location or a landlord renting below market to someone they know.
Find three or four comparable listings: same neighborhood, same number of bedrooms, similar condition. If the one you like is far below all of them and the photos show new finishes, in-unit laundry and parking, the numbers don't add up.
Real reasons a place can be cheaper:
- It needs work, sits on a busy road or has shared facilities.
- It's a sublet or lease takeover and the tenant needs out quickly.
- It's rent-regulated, which exists in some cities, or a long-time landlord keeps rent low.
- Utilities, parking or laundry cost extra.
Scam pricing tends to come with other extras: everything included, no credit check, move in right away. A low price alone doesn't prove a scam, but it means you should verify the owner and see the unit before anything else, and not let the fear of losing a deal rush you past those steps.
