How do I find housing for just one semester?

Short answer
Look for semester sublets and lease takeovers from students who are studying abroad, graduating early or leaving for an internship or co-op. College housing groups are the busiest place for these. Some student complexes offer shorter leases, and some universities rent dorm rooms for a single term, while standard off-campus leases usually run a full year.
Timing matters. Fall-only housing is harder to find, since most leases start in late summer and tenants are staying. Spring-only rooms are easier, because students leave in December to study abroad, graduate or start co-ops.
- Search your college housing group for "spring sublet", "fall sublet" or "lease takeover".
- Post your own request with exact dates, budget and whether you need furniture.
- Ask the housing office whether single-term contracts exist for dorms or university apartments.
- Check that the tenant has the landlord's permission to sublet before you agree.
- Consider a furnished room, which saves buying furniture you'll have to sell or store in a few months.
