How do I get notified when someone posts in a housing group?

Short answer
Open the group, find its notification settings (a bell icon or the Joined menu), and switch from Highlights to All posts. Facebook will then notify you about every new post in that group. Turn this on only for the one or two groups you're actively searching, or the alerts will bury the ones that matter.
The menu moves between app versions, but the options are usually the same: All posts, Highlights, Friends' posts and Off. Highlights is often the default, and it shows only a selection of activity, which is why many members miss new listings.
A few settings that help:
- Allow Facebook notifications on your phone, not just inside the app.
- Mute or leave groups for areas you have ruled out.
- Check the group feed sorted by new posts once or twice a day as a backup, since notifications are not always instant.
When a promising post appears, reply soon with the details the poster asked for. In competitive areas the first few complete replies are usually the ones that get viewings. Once you have signed somewhere, switch the setting back to Highlights or Off.
