Is a sublet better than an Airbnb for a few months?

Short answer
For stays of one to several months, a sublet is usually much cheaper than a short-term rental platform and feels more like living there, with a full kitchen and space for your things. A platform stay offers more protection, flexible dates and easy booking, which can be worth paying for if you cannot see the place first.
Compare them on what matters for your stay:
- Cost: sublets are often priced near local monthly rent. Platform stays add nightly pricing, cleaning and service fees, though some offer monthly discounts.
- Protection: booking platforms handle payment and have refund or dispute processes. A sublet depends on your agreement and the person you pay.
- Flexibility: platforms let you book specific nights. Sublets follow the tenant's dates.
- Living: a sublet is usually someone's real home, with kitchen, laundry and neighbors. That is great for a long stay, less so if you want hotel-style service.
Many people combine the two: book a platform stay for the first week or two, then view sublets in person and move once you have signed. That avoids paying for a sublet you have never seen.
