How should I answer the membership questions when joining a housing group?

Short answer
Answer every question honestly and specifically: say whether you are looking for a place or offering one, which area, and when. Short, real answers like 'Looking for a room near downtown from August' get approved far more often than blank answers, a one-word 'yes', or text copied from another group.
Membership questions help moderators separate real renters from spam accounts. Most groups ask some version of these:
- Are you looking for housing, offering housing, or both?
- What is your connection to this city or school, or why do you want to join?
- Do you agree to the group rules?
"I start a nursing job at the hospital in September and need a room within a 30-minute commute" tells a moderator you are real. You do not need to give your address, phone number, immigration status or anything else a stranger could misuse.
If a question asks you to agree to the rules, read them before you tick the box. They usually cover what can be posted, whether sublets and roommate searches are allowed, how often you can repost and what gets removed. Moderators notice when a newly approved member breaks a rule they just agreed to.
