When should I start looking for a summer sublet?

Short answer
Start looking about two to three months before your start date, and expect the most listings in the few weeks before the end of the spring semester. Students leaving for summer post in waves. If you are subletting your own place for summer, post early in spring to reach interns and summer students who plan ahead.
Summer sublets follow the academic calendar. In college areas, supply jumps when students confirm their summer plans and final exams approach, and demand comes from interns, summer students, researchers and people between leases.
A rough timeline for someone looking:
- Two to three months out: post an ISO with dates, budget and area, and start watching groups
- Four to eight weeks out: most listings appear, often as the spring semester wraps up. Reply quickly and view places
- The last two to three weeks: prices often drop, but choice is thinner
If you are subletting, internship and summer program participants often know their plans early in spring and want housing confirmed well before they arrive.
