How do I find Facebook housing groups for my city?

Short answer
Search Facebook for your city or neighborhood plus words like housing, apartments, rooms or sublets, then open the Groups tab of the results. Pick groups that are active, specific to that area and clearly moderated. Check the housing groups of nearby colleges too, since students and young professionals post there often.
Try several search terms, because groups are named inconsistently. "Boston housing", "Boston apartments", "rooms for rent Boston", "Boston sublets" and the name of a big university nearby will each turn up different groups.
Before you request to join, check each group for:
- Recent activity: new posts from the last day or two, not from weeks ago.
- Local focus: listings for that city, not the same ad repeated for a dozen cities.
- Written rules and membership questions, which usually mean someone is screening.
- Named admins and moderators, shown on the Members or About page.
